African Sunset canna plants can make a stunning addition to any pond or tub garden. These plants are typically grown from rhizomes, which are underground stem structures that store food and water.

African Sunset canna plants are well-suited for growing in ponds or tubs, as they can tolerate being submerged in water. They are hardy in zones 8-12, meaning they can handle a minimum temperature range of 10-40°F (-12 to 4°C). For those living in colder regions outside of these zones, it's important to protect the rhizomes from freezing temperatures during the winter months.

One way to do this is to remove the plants from the pond or tub in the fall before the first frost and allow them to dry for a few days. Then, remove any remaining soil and store the rhizomes in a dry, cool place (such as a basement) in a paper bag or box filled with sawdust or vermiculite. Check on them periodically to make sure they are not drying out too much or becoming too damp.

Come spring, when the danger of frost has passed, replant the rhizomes in the pond or tub, ensuring they are at the appropriate depth. With proper care and maintenance, African Sunset canna plants can thrive in a pond or tub garden, providing a stunning display of variegated foliage and bright orange-yellow flowers.

These can easily be grown in just a pea gravel substrate - so no need for "soil" when used in a pond or tub basket
